The only university in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions to be selected. - Selected as the only integrated support project in the Daegu & Gyeongbuk regions and secured government funding of 214 million won (KRW) - Promoting five detailed projects such as invention interview and public IP utilization, product unit portfolio construction, and more Daegu University (president Hong Duck-ryul) has recently been selected for the '2017 Intellectual Property (IP) Capacity Enhancement Support Project for Universities and Public Research Institutions' organized by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and Korea Intellectual Property STrategy Agency (KISTA). This project assists promising patent technology from universities and public research institutions created through government R&D to be quickly transferred to commercial enterprises. In particular, this year, the 'integrated support type' application was set up to jointly carry out detailed projects for intellectual property capacity enhancement, which has been thus far promoted individually; Daegu University was selected as the only institution in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions to be included in a support type project and will be supported for all five projects in recognition of its intellectual property capabilities. Daegu University's Industry and Academic Cooperation Foundation (Director Yoon Jae-woong) received an investment of government subsidies of 214 million won (KRW) and funding of 107 million won (KRW) to promote the following five specific projects: 1) invention interview and public IP utilization, 2) product unit portfolio establishment, 3) support for government R&D patent design, 4) support for patent diagnosis with public institutions, and 5) dispatching patent management experts. As for the invention interview and public IP utilization support project, Daegu University will create strong intellectual property (IP) and select promising technologies by participating in the IT field with the aim of introducing the 'invention interview system'. In addition, through the product unit portfolio establishment support project, Daegu University will promote the commercialization and transfer of patents to industry by supporting the verification and certification of patent technology, especially for those whose technology transfer has been delayed due to lack of reliability. In particular, in the government R&D patent design support project, professor Gang Seon-cheol and professor Jang Won-gu from the Department of Biotechnology (hereby BT field) and professor Kim Su-yeon from the Department of Computer and Information Engineering (hereby IT field) will participate. Thus, the participants will receive patent consulting from these professors for selected research tasks. Through this, the project will design the optimal scope of intellectual property rights and strategies to secure domestic and international rights. In addition, Daegu University will establish strategies for the management and utilization of existing patents through the analysis and consulting of unused patents and will raise the level of overall intellectual property capacity of the university by raising awareness of intellectual property through the direct recruitment of patent management specialists (patent attorneys) and improving the performance capacity of the intellectual property department. To accomplish this, Daegu University signed a business agreement with the Korea Intellectual Property STrategy Agency (KISTA) on March 21 for successful project implementation.
