Subject Daegu University First in Region to Implement “Overseas Korean Language Teacher Training” Posted by OIA

Daegu University has invited 24 Korean language professors from 12 universities that offer majors in Korean language in China, Mongol, Vietnam, and Kazakhstan for "Overseas Korean Language Teacher Training" to be held from July 20 to August 1, 2009.

 

This is the first year to offer such a training course and the goal is not only to enhance exchange and cooperation with overseas sister universities, but also to promote Korea and Korean language to educators who are involved in Korean language teaching overseas.

 

Team Manager Kang, Seon-Ku, who is in charge of planning and preparing for the event says, "I think it is of utmost importance for professors who are teaching Korean to have a strong affection and sound understanding of Korea in order to promote Korea and recruit excellent international students from overseas universities. As such, I hope that participants in this training program will gain fruitful knowledge about the Korean language as well as Korean culture and history and teach Korean with great pride and self-confidence after completing the program."

 

The training lasts two weeks and includes theoretical lectures on Korean History Education, Understanding Korean Literature, Korean Language Teaching Materials, and Korean Language Teaching Methodology through Korean Movies, as well as hands-on practices such as Korean Language Teaching Methods, and Korean Language Class Observations. All of these offerings can be utilized in the real educational settings for overseas Korean language professors.

 

In addition, this training provides an opportunity to explore Korea''s history, culture, and progress through cultural field trips to Daegu, Gyeongju, and Busan.

 

One of the participants - Xu Shi Li, professor of Korean Language in Jilin University, Zhuhai, China - said, "I am really glad to have the chance to learn proper teaching methods for Korean language education and practices in Korea and most of all, I have embraced enhanced pride and confidence as a Korean language educator from the experiences of Korean history and culture through this training program."
